    Peer-To-Peer Depression Awareness

    The Peer-to-Peer Depression Awareness program was developed to help raise awareness of depressive illnesses, reduce the stigma of depression, and increase the likelihood of early detection and help-seeking among students.  Peer-to-Peer team members use their leadership skills and knowledge to help create a culture of caring and support in their school, by implementing a public awareness campaign.

     

    Peer Mediation:

    Peer Mediation  

    The Peer Mediation Program allows students the opportunity to help their peers effectively resolve conflicts in a collaborative manner.  They learn social leadership skills that can last a lifetime, including active listening skills, respecting differences, collaboration, and critical thinking skills.  The students develop self confidence, increase their understanding of different situations, and increase their tolerance of things that are unfamiliar.  Peer Mediation empowers students to solve their own problems.  Discussing and resolving disputes through Peer Mediation creates a more cohesive and peaceful student body.  

     

    Peer Power Group:

    Our Peer Power Group originated during our Bullying Prevention Month.  The group meets monthly to collaborate on ways to make a positive difference at Tappan and learn more about the effects of bullying and how to prevent it.  One of their activities was holding an Anti-Bullying Pledge banner signing.  All students who signed received a blue and white ribbon to wear showing their support to keep Tappan bully-free.  Our theme this year is We Rise by Lifting Others.

    ON-GOING ALL YEAR: Parent Support Group

    for Parents of Children with Suicidal Thoughts & Behaviors

    1st and 3rd Mondays of each month from 7:00-8:30 pm

    Meeting at the Washtenaw Intermediate School District, Seminar 6 at 1819 South Wagner Road, Ann Arbor.
    Participants should be the parents or guardians of children who are currently exhibiting suicidal thoughts or behaviors (or have done so in the recent past).  Pre-registration required -- email Alison Paine at alisonpaine21@hotmail.com.

     

    Digital Citizenship

    The Digital Citizenship project is a partnership with University of Michigan Teacher Education students and some of our 6th grade students.  It began in 2016.  The purpose of the interactive project is to help students cultivate and manage their digital identity and reputation,  raise their awareness of the permanence of their actions, learn research strategies to locate information and other resources for intellectual pursuits, evaluate the accuracy, perspective, credibility and relevance of information, media, data and other resources.
